Meet The Artist: Her Education & Artistic Style

I am artist with 25+ years of experience in creating art. My journey began with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting and drawing. My passion then drove me to pursue my Master’s in Education in Counseling and Human Development with a concentration in Mental Health.   As a mental health therapist, I helped my clients express their deepest emotions through art. I’m a strong believer in the healing power of creativity, and I’m passionate about helping those in need. As a therapist it was important for me to create a peaceful and calming environment for my clients.

As with my clients, art gave me the power to process one of my greatest tragedies: the loss of my husband, Joshua, who passed away from COVID two years ago. Through painting, sketching, and other mediums, I was able to create a beautiful narrative of our love, even in his absence. His impact on my life is indelible and will never be forgotten-and he will continue to live on in the hearts of our young son and myself. This is the story I told through my artwork in 2021-2022.

As an artist, I’m inspired by the beauty of nature and the colors that surround me. I strive to create unique, eye-catching art that will bring joy to the viewer. My design philosophy focuses on biomorphic lines, value changes, and color relationships to craft art pieces that evoke a certain mood or emotion.

From the structured permanence of pen to the freedom of watercolor, I’ve come to value the juxtaposition created by various mediums. Acrylic, oil, graphite, and watercolors-each bring a unique layer to my art. While I revel in the exploratory process of watercolor, I find the challenge of combining it with the controlled lines of pen to be a fascinating endeavor. It is always a rewarding experience to bring together these seemingly disparate elements to create a harmonious whole. With these elements I strive to create art that celebrates the alluring world around us.

The beauty of watercolor and pen is that they are both unforgiving and empowering-no mistakes are hidden, and you must work to find solutions to any problems that arise. They push you to use your creativity and ingenuity to create something that is truly unique, and their unforgiving nature only adds to their charm. Every brush stroke and line is a journey of discovery and a reminder of the importance of taking risks and learning from any mistakes.

My name is Kimberly Inks Day, and I am the artist behind Pigs&Figs, LLC. I create artwork to not be limited by one idea, but instead inspire viewers to create their own stories. Come explore the world of pigments and figments with me!
